Today the earthquake of 7.2 magnitude hit the eastern part of Turkey
named Van. According to local TV news, at least 50 buildings were
collapsed in the city center while no information on damage in rural
areas is available. Since most buildings are of concrete, many deaths
and injuries are expected. Especially a few worker families reside in
the area. We ask your prayer for people going through this crisis. For
your information, on 17 August 1999 there was a 7.4-magnitude
earthquake in Izmit, 100 km east of Istanbul, resulting in the death
toll between 15,000 and 40,000.
